Looking for books about armour?
I am often asked by customers where to find books and reference materials about Medieval and Renaissance arms and armour. Unfortunately this subject is not commonly published and search results for "armour" or "armor" turn up a slew of information about ham or golf equipment. I decided to spend a weekend typing in the ISBN numbers of some of the books in my collection and compiling a list of easy links.
Books for kids.
These books are written for younger readers but they are some of the best! The information is direct and concise. The illustrations are superb some of which have photos showing the inside of plate armour. The first book, "The Medieval Knight" even has detailed paintings of every component in a 15th century Milanese suit in exploded views!
Men At Arms Series.
All of the books I have read from the Men at Arms series have been excellent! They are short books but are very detailed in their particular subject. The illustrations are very well done and have a high level of historical accuracy. These make great references for Renaissance Faire or SCA character and costume development.
More books in the "Men at Arms" series.
Many of the books in my personal library are totally unavailable but I will continue to search and add to this list. I hope that this proves useful for enthusiasts.
