Gothic Armour c1480
German and Austrian,
14g - 18g Mild Steel.
Sold
This suit is based on a composite German and Austrian suit from a private collection. The many fluted lines serve not only as fancy decoration but also to strengthen the plates. As was common in the day, many of the components tie on to a padded undergarment. This allows for quite comfortable wear and a good range of movement. The helmet of the original did not have a lifting visor and the tassets were of a different style but these changes still reflect typical Gothic armour of the late 15th century.
Many components of this armour have been replaced with better, more accurate reproductions since these first two photos were taken. This third picture shows the suit as it was right before the sale.
